About Me

A Family Vehicle

For the first 10 years of my life, I was an only child. Then, my younger sister was born. She definitely changed our family for the better. However, after my sister’s arrival, my parents soon discovered the family needed more space. Our house suddenly became too small. In addition to our home, my parents decided the family needed a larger vehicle. So they set out to purchase a minivan. They fell in love with a blue one at a local auto dealership. The kind salesperson allowed my parents to test drive the minivan over an entire weekend. After keeping the automobile for two days, my parents were hooked. On this blog, I hope you will be inspired to begin your search for the vehicle your family will make unforgettable memories in for the next several years.

3 Types Of Temporary Fixes For A Leaking Radiator

Owning and operating a motor vehicle makes life more convenient. While having the ability to travel from one place to another can be beneficial, it can also present some unique problems. If your vehicle's radiator begins to leak while you are traveling away from home, you may not know a reliable mechanic in the area who can service your car.

Here are three temporary fixes for a leaking radiator every driver should know about that will help you get your car safely home to your own mechanic in the future.

1. Stop at a grocery store and purchase some eggs.

If you notice that your radiator has sprung a leak, a trip to a local grocery store could help you stop the leak temporarily while you travel back home to your own mechanic. Placing four egg whites into your radiator's tank could help plug up any leaks.

You will want to be sure that your car has been running for a few minutes prior to dropping the egg whites into your radiator. In order for the gooey eggs to plug up any cracks, the liquid in your tank must be warm enough to start cooking the eggs on contact.

2. Invest in some duct tape.

Stopping by a local hardware store to purchase some duct tape can be a great way to temporarily address leaking radiator hoses. Be sure that you thoroughly clean the exterior of the hoses with a rag and some soapy water, since any dirt or radiator fluid on the hose's surface could prevent the duct tape from adhering properly.

Once the cracked area is dry, wind the duct tape around the crack several times. By sealing the crack with duct tape, you will be able to prevent leaking fluid until you can get your car home to your own mechanic.

3. Put pepper packets to good use.

As soon as you notice a leak in your radiator, it can be beneficial to stop by a fast food restaurant and pick up some pepper packets. Pouring pepper into your radiator's tank (up to a shaker's worth of pepper is acceptable) could temporarily plug up any holes allowing radiator fluid to leak out.

Pour the pepper packets into your radiator's tank while the car is cool, then allow your car to idle while the pepper circulates through your radiator's system. The pressure of the radiator fluid will force the pepper into cracks and holes, where it will harden to temporarily stop any leaks.

Knowing some unconventional ways to temporarily stop your radiator from leaking will allow you to get your car home to your trusted mechanic when you experience radiator problems while traveling.
